From the slip out to open Gulf water through Matlacha Pass is an unbroken run — no manatee zones with the slow wake-down at sunset, no fixed bridges that limit air draft, no locks. For most of Cape Coral's canal-side housing stock that's not the case; getting a sailboat or a tower boat to the Gulf can take 30 minutes of no-wake idle.
